Ettlingen is a founding member of the Karlsruhe Technology Region, which has existed since 1987. The central location in Europe makes the Karlsruhe location particularly competitive. The region is excellently connected to the international transport network and lies on the most important north-south freight corridor in Europe. The Rhine ports in the region with their container terminals are among the largest inland ports in Germany.
